The UFC, with the way they're structured, is a lot like WWE, in that they count on their fans not having good enough memories for them to not be easily manipulated by their next television show, pay-per-view, media interview, press conference, website, etc. In other words, they sell the present, or immediate future, not something so far down the road. UFC fans are a lot like WWE fans, in that the majority of them (as you've already pointed out) do not have good memories and anxiously await the next "biggest fight/match/etc., in history." The UFC, with the way they’re structured, is a lot like WWE, in that they count on their fans not having good enough memories for them to not be easily manipulated by their next television show, pay-per-view, media interview, press conference, website, etc.

In other words, they sell the present, or immediate future, not something so far down the road.

Still, I'm not sure it is a smart idea to broadcast that fact to an audience you're eventually going to have to sell that fight to but like I said by the time it comes time to promote that fight I may be the only person left on earth who remembers them doing it, so it won't matter.
