RiP James Melroy, MMA/Pro Wrestling Beat Reporter & “Murderball” Player
Thanks to Mike K, “the Informer”
Bob Keisser wrote for the Press Telegram:
He was an Eagle Scout, the first to become one from a wheelchair.
He played wheelchair rugby, known as Murderball to some, and coached high school basketball.
He loved Los Angeles sports so much that he didn’t even lose his affection for the Rams when they skedaddled to St. Louis..
Melroy went to Long Beach City College, majored in journalism and served as editor-in-chief of the school newspaper. He was initially hired as a clerk at the Press-Telegram, worked his way up to prep editor, and convinced editors that these nouveau sports called Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) were worth covering.
