The Big Fight Live ‘Amir Khan vs. Michael Gomez’ – 06/21/08 – Round By Round Coverage

Welcome to inpromptu live coverage of the Commonwealth Lightweight Championship fight between Amir Khan and Michael Gomez coming from the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, UK. Coverage will begin very soon so remember to refresh your browser to get the latest updates.

We are running about 30 mins behind schedule as there was a Euro 2008 soccer game that ran into extra time so we shall get to the fight shortly.

The fighters are coming to the ring just now and Gomez to put it lightly is not a crowd favourite, i think that could be due to the fact he came out in a Mexican outfit covered in the Irish flag…yeah, as a rule we like the Irish but tonight is an exception. On the other hand, Khan gets a massively positive reaction and i know for a fact Casey will like this as he has his own entrance music. With the official introductions done and dusted, here we go!

Commonwealth Lightweight Championship (12×3 mins)

Amir Khan(c) vs. Michael Gomez

Round 1: This was fucking awesome! Khan scored a knockdown within the first 90 seconds of the round and it was 3 minutes of complete and utter domination. Gomez had no response to the blistering speed of Khan’s combinations and if this continues, this ain’t going long. Khan’s round

Round 2: What a turnaround, Gomez comes out for round 2 revitalised and gets some good shots in and scores a knockdown. Khan is wobbly but 20 seconds after that, Khan gets back on track and controls the round and Gomez is cut below his left eye. Unsure about that one.

Round 3: Gomez = Khan’s punching bag. That’s all you need to know about this round, Khan destroyed him with uppercuts and brutal shots to the face. Khan’s round.

Round 4: Gomez hurts Khan’s ribs early in the round and Khan is now forced to avoid getting hurt there. But Khan works on and answers back with a brutal flurry of at least 15 shots that rocks Gomez but he just refuses to go down. Khan’s round but things are starting to get even.

Round 5: IT’S ALL OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Khan repays Gomez with a shot to the body which forces him to the ground to take a count. Khan goes on to land some nice shots and in the last 30 seconds, Khan unloads the big guns against the ropes and the referee steps in to halt the fight.

Winner and STILL Commonwealth Lightweight Champion – Amir Khan via TKO (2.32 R5)

This fight was fucking awesome and i can’t wait to see what happens next in this young fighter’s career. Thank you for checking this coverage out and come back for more later tonight for coverage of The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale.
